© 2018 Australian National Euroa Shine And Shine

YOU JUST CAN’T HAVE TOO MANY CORVETTES! (ESPECIALLY THIS ONE)

September 13, 2017

At last year’s Australian National Show and Shine Euroa, Bill Anderson was hopeful of presenting his 2012 Chev Corvette ZR1 to us. Unfortunately, despite a lead-up article which we published prior to the show, the car was delayed in delivery with the result that it failed to arrive in time for our show.

That’s the bad news. The GOOD NEWS is that Bill will have this incredible car on show for us in 2017.

Yes, I know that we’ve already done an article on Russell Pell’s 1990 ZR1, but a little research soon convinced us that this is a much different package. Twenty-two years can make a VERY big difference in the Automotive Industry.

Bill Anderson sourced this car in Montreal Canada, with just 5,000 kms on the clock from a collector and shipped it via Rotterdam to Melbourne in 2016. It had a full hi-spec conversion done by “Corvette Clinic.”

The car’s crystal red colour was one of only 200 built in 2012. It has a carbon fibre roof, bonnet & boot lid and this ZR 1 has the full specs with the LS 9 supercharged motor.

Bill says: “GM has provided the last 250 LS9 motors & gear boxes to HSV Australia for their last car, to be priced at $170k. I think I would rather have the Corvette, even though it owes me $185k after import, conversion & luxury car tax.”

The power plant for this 2012 model consists of a 6.2 litre (378 ci) supercharged V8, producing 638hp (476 kW) at 6,500 RPM. This propels the car from 0 to 60 mph in just in just 3.5 seconds. Chevrolet claims a top speed of 205 mph (329 kph)

One motor-noter, Peter Egan, when reviewing the car for Road and Track Magazine says: “With that 4-lobe, twin-throat Eaton supercharger, the hand built aluminium V-8 makes big power everywhere, but even bigger power as the revs climb. It's one of those ‘the faster it goes, the faster it goes’ cars.”

Transmission is a 6 speed manual with overdrive. The car comes with a handling package with all the track-friendly traction control amenities, with the big Brembo brakes, Pilot Sport Cup tyres, a full width spoiler and close-ratio gearbox. The new tyres are 19- and 20-in. diameters, and the handling package is designed to enable the Corvette to corner at 1.1g, according to General Motors.

The aluminium frame is the same used on the Le Mans winning C6.R race car.

If you need more options, then we’re told that the car came with a choice of red, silver, yellow or grey brake callipers. Perhaps one of each would be cute?
