Magical CFA Exhibition

August 11, 2017

There aren’t many things that can get kids more excited than a BIG RED FIRE TRUCK!

Often accompanied by flashing lights, spraying water and punctuated by the sounds of bells and sirens, the Country Fire Authority’s exhibit at the Australian National Show and Shine has been a long-standing and popular attraction for families visiting our show.

Back again this year and located in Brock Street between Binney Street and McGuinness Street, the CFA exhibition offers much more than a Big Red Truck.

CFA co-ordinator Phil Hawke said that this year’s display will include the Euroa tanker and pumper, together with forward command vehicles. The Bailieston “quick fill” and Violet Town light tankers will also attend, and it is proposed to also display several fire-fighting appliances from local farmers.

It is anticipated that one of the prime attractions will be the old Melbourne Fire Brigade Museum’s ancient Pumper Truck which will attend together with the State CFA Mobile Education Unit which is always a major drawcard. A long ladder unit from Bendigo is also in the pipeline – to be confirmed.

The family-friendly exhibit includes a “hands-on” experience for young potential fire-fighters, giving them a chance to hold the big fire hose and try on a fireman’s helmet. Part of the children’s exhibition will feature a mini helicopter.

It’s also a chance for parents to see first-hand the equipment that is used by these brave and selfless men and women who protect and rescue us during those dangerous summer months. It is a little known fact that Victoria is categorised as one of the most bushfire-prone locations in the world.
