A COUPLE OF COOL CAMAROS
Best mates Glenn Godden and Clive Dixon are crazy about Chev Camaros and usually spend their Saturday afternoons at Clive’s Panel Works at Marungi near Shepparton, working on their respective pride and joys. This year they have their sights set firmly on some of the 70+ trophies that we have on offer for show cars.
Glenn has displayed several of his cars at the Australian National Show and Shine Euroa before. Over recent years he has displayed two Camaros, one red 1969 auto with a 396ci (6.5 litre) engine, one black ‘69 manual with a 454ci (7.4 litre), and also an immaculate Chev Belair. His 2017 exhibition is a 1969 RS (Rally Sport) presented in Le Mans Blue.
The car required only a minimum of work when Glenn acquired it several months ago, and it’s now presented in pristine condition. It sports a 350 ci engine (5.7 litre) with a Turbo 700 four speed auto and Rally wheels with red-wall tyres.
For Clive, his 1967 Butternut Yellow Camaro is an “old mate” and has been with Clive for around 10 to 15 years. Powered by a Big Block 454ci (7.4 litre) monstrous motor with a mild cam this vehicle obviously doesn’t need too many gears and has a two-speed Powerglide transmission.
It has been recorded that the engine actually produced 465 hp (347 kW) and 610 lb ft (830 Nm) of torque as delivered from the factory. And we have little doubt that Clive has improved on that!
Power steering, disc brakes and a 4-barrel Holley carb complete the package.
But for Clive Dixon, a new project looms on the horizon and it’s time to say goodbye to his “old mate”, so the big Butternut Yellow beast will display a “For Sale” sign at this year’s show.
